The article examines the social protection of citizens dismissed from military
service, as well as members of their families as a social institution that is in the process
of formation in modern conditions. The main approaches to the study of this problem
in the domestic sociological science are outlined. The main reasons for the dysfunction
of social protection of Russian citizens dismissed from military service, as well as their
family members, are revealed, the directions of its resolution are determined.
